Losing Our Daughter

Minnie Mouse & Kayla at Disneyland

Just a few days after writing my last post our 25yo daughter was admitted to the hospital with Pneumonia. Two days later she was diagnosed with Leukemia ALL. She was rushed to Huntsman Cancer Institute that night and two days later was transferred to Primary Children’s Hospital due to her Aspergers.

The first week was emotional and heartbreaking but her Dr’s laid out a plan of recovery and many years to come that put our minds at ease. After being at PCMC for two weeks she was released on Oct 19th with all her meds, a PIC line, a couple rounds of Chemo behind her, and a future to look forward too. Her birthday was the next day Oct 20th…. We loved sharing this day with her!

That night she was having a hard time lifting her arm without pain in her PIC line. I worried about a blood clot so we went to the PCMC ER where they found two blood clots and admitted her. She was devastated, we were devastated. The next couple days hit her hard, severe pain, Jaundice, unable to eat, feeding tube, among many other things. It was rough. Her body wasn’t handling the Chemo and things weren’t going well.

On November 8th, just 34 days after being diagnosed with Leukemia ALL, our girl went back to Heaven. I’m sure she was met with countless family and friends who embraced her and will keep her company until we meet again.

The devastation is deep, the loss is beyond compare, the emptiness is mountainous.

It’s been over 6 months since she’s been gone. Some days are better than others. I love and miss her so much and wish things were different.

Every day I wish she was here, but she isn’t, and finding a way to live and honor her memory is always on my mind.

I love you Kayla Ann! Rest in Peace Sweet Girl! October 20, 1995 – November 8, 2020
